Arrogant Ignorance….
After another exhausting, ‘one way’ conversation with a twenty year old that continues to make wrong 
choices and won’t hear it from… old folks, I told them they were ignorant for the choices and when they would grow up, the response, I’m not ignorant…you don’t know that. This went on and on… to no avail. I was talking with the parent, the next day about the espisode and they had the Mike and Julliette Show on, lo and behold, this segment came up with Geraldo Rivera and Judge Jeanine Pirro, called the Verdict. In it was the revelation that I had been looking for in dealing with all of the younger crowd…. “Arrogant Ignorance”…brilliant! It explains how they think that what they do on You Tube is…just for them… and it is literally seen by anyone. It explains why sometimes you have to let them hit bottom… to get up and get out of their rut.
It also explains why this generation is so dangerous with everything being, instant sharing, instant messaging and instant gratification. Call me ‘ole school, but a good old fashion ass whooping from the parent is sometimes they will understand. It’s instant pain… so they will ‘feel ya’… but it leaves a seed that blossoms later in life that will help them. How many times have our conversations led to, “Mommy used to whup me and I turned out” in fact we all did.
I will continue to pray for intervention with this generation, but I plan on sending an email to Geraldo on those ’2′ words, I am sure it was God that confirmed it for me through him so that I will know how to proceed if I have that opportunity to counsel again. Generation X…suffering from Arrogant Ignorance.
